Each river is unique in design with foundations of rocks, waterfalls, currents, twists and turns as they all work together. Our bodies have been designed by God to work together in unique fashion, we all think and respond differently while enduring emotional hurts, struggles and injuries. Like the river we all need a foundation made of rock. For us, Jesus is that solid foundation.

As we journey through life we will be blessed tremendously with many unknowns. This river of life will contain struggles and hurts — submerged rocks that strike us blindfolded, some we avoid, others we can’t stop. The tears, pain and hurts they cause are real and our faith will be challenged. Our lives, like a river, flow and grow, when we stay focused on Jesus.

Like the rapids of uncontrollable speed where all you do is survive — our lives become over committed, unmanageable and out of control. Fish take time to eat, and rest in pockets of calm. We need times of relaxation to enjoy all the treasures God has in our lives.

Waterfalls are like crises in our life, eddies like unreleased sin trapped in daily living, both overwhelming until released to Jesus; it’s a choice only we can make. Rivers, powerful at times, destroy everything in its path, overflowing on surrounding areas. God’s grace of unconditional love, our love for Jesus, the hope we have, should flow from our heart into the lives of others while remembering words destroy or bring encouragement of hope.

The water in the river is a constant reminder of our baptism into Jesus. We might get tossed around uncontrollably, go under once in a while and gasp for air. If we stay focused on Jesus, we will never sink into darkness, like the darkness at the bottom of the ocean. We will continue to float with hope and life just like the resurrection of Our Savior Jesus.

As we travel this life on the river with Jesus, there will be hidden treasures — family, friends, nature, sunrises and sunsets. Slow down, reflect, treasure the moments and enjoy this unconditional love of grace. As the river ends its journey and blends into the ocean — our life on the river with Jesus will be filled with everything God ever promised.
